Today is Earth Day and what better way to care for our planet than with succulents?! We thought we would do more of an informative Earth Day blog post about how amazing succulents are for our earth! Besides their natural beauty, succulents have numerous benefits for our planet. They are excellent plants to have in your garden or home as they absorb carbon dioxide at night, improving air quality, and use stored carbon dioxide during the day to create organic acid for photosynthesis, helping to lower carbon dioxide levels and fight global warming.
NASA studies have shown that succulents can also help with air purification by naturally fighting toxins called VOCs, which are found in various everyday items such as ink, upholstery, and cleaning products. Succulents store VOCs in their roots and convert them into food, thereby reducing the number of toxins in the air and improving indoor air quality when planted indoors. When planted outside, succulents also help to reduce VOC emissions from homes, contributing to cleaner air in the community!
In addition, succulents require minimal watering, usually only once a week, and only at their roots. Unlike regular house plants that need frequent watering, succulents use very little water, helping to reduce water waste in gardens. In regions with water shortages, such as Las Vegas, using succulents instead of grass can save hundreds of gallons of water. Overall, succulents are beautiful plants and play a pivotal role in benefiting our environment in ways that may not be immediately visible. Happy Earth Day and Succ Yea!!
